How old is this dang thing? 80Gb, 5400rpm? It’s probably worth more as a coaster at this point.

If it hooks up to IDE instead of Sata, it might actually be worth a couple of bucks since everyone switched to SATA a long time ago. I’m restoring some old thinkpads and HDDs are not easy to come by new for a decent price.

It say s SATA right on the label.

If you want a cool coaster, pop that baby open and grab the platters....they’ll make a weird coaster with a hole in the middle.

No, it’s a SATA drive. My fist ever laptop was actually a Thinkpad with a 32gb IDE drive though.

I was trying not to be the jac kass that pointed that out. Thank you for taking that particular bullet.

I saw this post on a phone screen. Was hard to read. I’ll make sure to only read posts on a full computer before commenting.....

Gotcha, I was on a phone reading this post initially so I couldn’t make out the details.

That’s an interesting thought experiment....I can’t remember what size HDD my first laptop was.....let’s see it was about 15 years ago ....what would that have been?
Had to look it up, wikipedia to the rescue. Dell e1405 came with an 80 or 100GB drive, I’m sure I cheaped out and went 80GB. Core 2 Duo though, woohoo! Good CPU.

A ll good, no hard feelings man and honestly it could have been me reading from my phone. 75% of my oppo consumption is from the mobile.

How old is this dang thing?
ENHANCE!
Anyway, I’m sure I have older hanging around because “maybe something important is on there”. And if nothing else, I’m pretty sure I’ve got the 20GB drive from my xbox 360 around somewhere (it was subsequently replaced by a 120GB, which was then replaced by a 320GB)

If it’ll fit in a HD-based iPod and works, someone may want it for that.
